American Staffordshire Terrier
The American Staffordshire Terrier is an intelligent, happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog. They are good-natured, amusing, and extremely loyal and affectionate.
Though they look tough, American Staffordshire Terrier is actually a compassionate, sensitive breed who’d rather play than be tough. He views life as an adventure.
Almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more than to please its master. They are dependable and make a great loyal companion, especially to their own family. The American Staffordshire Terrier is extremely courageous and intelligent. They make great guards, too, because of their loyalty to their owners.
Early socialization is key to avoid any wariness towards other dogs or humans as an adult. They can be stubborn, but they work well with confident owners.
Major Health Concerns: American Staffordshire Terriers are prone to heart murmurs, thyroid problems, skin allergies, tumors, hip dysplasia, hereditary cataracts and congenital heart disease.
Interesting Fact: A variety of breeds were used to develop the “Amstaff” including the Bull Terrier, the Old English White Terrier,and Tan, the Bulldog, the Mastiff, the Pointer, the Dalmatian and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
